Announced for Japan in March, cult classic Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is now available for Android smartphones in the U.S.

In terms of new features, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth includes HD graphics and a wide voice cast. The game also lets you change the control style, which includes partial gamepad support. Finally, you can auto-save and save wherever you want.

The game centers around titular character Lenneth, a valkyrie who must recruit and train slain human warriors for the Aesir in its war against the Vanir. As you continue through the game, you see Lenneth’s growing doubt as a Valkyrie as she learns about her original human life and the lives of others.

Along with the story, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is known for its unique approach to combat. Even though your party might have more than one character, your entire party shares one turn and can simultaneously attack during that turn.

You assign each party member to a button, opening possibilities for combo attacks that vary from purely offensive to a mixture of offensive and magic. Once you fill the Hit Gauge, one of your characters can perform a special attack.

Keep in mind that Lenneth summons the other characters, known in the game as einherjar, when you start a fight. As such, you cannot voluntarily remove her and must revive her within three turns if she is defeated.

As a quick refresher, Square Enix originally published the game as Valkyrie Lenneth in 1999 for the PlayStation 1. The studio then ported the game as Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth to the PSP in 2006.

As for the mobile version of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, the game is available through the Play Store for $16. Even with the high price tag, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth still includes in-app purchases that range from $4 to $9.
