This Day In Deals is our new section where we share a historical fact and the day’s best deal – and try to connect them. The aim? To enrich ourselves financially, and you spiritually.
History has a way of being both absurd and horrifying.
Consider this day (October 29) back in 1390. On it, the world’s first non-religious trial for witchcraft happened in Paris. Specifically, Jehenne de Brigue was accused of making a potion to curse her husband.
While de Brigue didn’t confess immediately, after three months of imprisonment (and torture) she declared she was, in fact, a witch. Possibly (read: almost definitely) due to the violent abuse, she also named one of her friends, Macette de Ruilly, as a practicer of magic.
Both were burnt at the stake in 1391.
On one hand, it’s ludicrous. Killing someone because you think they’re a witch is farcical at best. But, on the other, two women lost their lives due to a punishing patriarchal system.
Thankfully, we’ve moved on a bit. And as a big middle finger to all the historical witch-hunters out there, why don’t you buy something that would’ve got you sentenced as a magic-user in 1390? Like a Base Inventor Kit from littleBits.
The company creates products that let anyone turn their ideas into actual, working inventions.
The Base Inventor Kit contains a range of components that can be connected together to make hardware that would’ve been unthinkable a hundred years ago.
You know, sweet stuff like a robo-arm, a handheld navigator, or a proximity alarm. Precisely the sort of “magic” that might’ve got you burned as a witch in 1390.
At only $99.99, the littleBits Base Inventor Kit is not only a cool bit of tech, but also a wonderful way to express independent and creative thought – without the fear of a witch trial.
